"Dr. Thompson is first and for most a great person. The staff is also very helpful and super nice! I was scared to trust another Doctor with my health yet he has always made me feel comfortable. Dr. Thompson removed my gall bladder recently and will also be doing my VSG surgery in the near future. All I can say is everything went extremely well and I trust him with my life. My experience thus far has been nothing less than amazing!"

FAQs about Bariatric Surgery in Long Island

How much does bariatric surgery cost?

Bariatric surgery cost in Long Island will depend on a variety of factors, including insurance and your choice of procedure. To get an accurate estimate of what it will cost you, schedule a consultation with us! Most insurance plans cover the cost of bariatric surgery, but check with your insurance company to make sure.

Is bariatric surgery right for me?

Bariatric surgery is not the right choice for everyone. However, bariatric surgery in Long Island might be the best option if you’re morbidly obese (BMI > 40) and if you have been largely unsuccessful at losing weight in the past. Bariatric surgery is the most effective clinically proven way to lose weight for obese patients.

Do I qualify for the bariatric surgery program?

To qualify for bariatric surgery, you need to: (1) Have a BMI of over 40 OR (2) Have a BMI over 35 AND be dealing with an obesity-related health condition, AND (3) Have a record of weight loss attempts using diet and exercise but with little lasting success. You will also need to pass a psychological evaluation.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

Patients who opt for either gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery can expect to lose, on average, 50% to 60% of their excess weight in the first year after surgery. Excess weight is your current pre-op weight minus your goal “healthy” weight. A 300 pound patient whose goal weight is 150 pounds can therefore expect to lose between 75 and 90 pounds.
